People of any age may suffer from it, especially diabetics.<\/p>\n<p>Why is it easier to suffer from gray nails in summer? One is that the spring and summer weather in Hong Kong is warm and humid, and the humid environment of shoe cages is the most suitable for fungal growth. The second is that people also like to swim in swimming pools or beaches in summer, and they have the opportunity to come into contact with shared facilities with bacteria and cause &quot;accidents&quot;. In addition, wearing sandals or open-toed shoes is also more likely to come into contact with bad bacteria on the street.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, if you wear ill-fitting shoes, the toenails may be compressed and deformed, increasing the chance of infection of gray toenails. Changing rooms, swimming pools, gyms, manicure shops, reflexology shops, and children&#039;s playrooms are all &quot;high-risk&quot; places. People with wet hands, such as housewives, chefs, hairdressers or manicurists, are also at high risk.<\/p>\n<p>If left untreated after suffering from onychomycosis, other nails may also be infected.<\/p>\n<h3>How can I tell if I have gray nails?<\/h3>\n<p>Doctors generally make clinical judgments based on experience. In addition, medical staff only need to cut a small amount of infected nails for fungal culture tests to make an accurate diagnosis.<\/p>\n<h3>Gray nail treatment<\/h3>\n<p>Topical antifungal drugs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ointment or lotion<\/li>\n<li>The cure rate is about 50%<\/li>\n<li>The treatment time is the longest. It takes 6 months to treat finger fungus and 9 to 12 months or more for toe fungus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Oral antifungal drugs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The general course of treatment is 6 weeks to 3 months, and it takes 12 weeks for pedicure<\/li>\n<li>Liver function may be affected, and blood tests are required to monitor liver function during the period<\/li>\n<li>The cure rate is about 70%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Laser Treatment:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Laser kills fungus without damaging the nail or surrounding skin while stimulating nail growth<\/li>\n<li>The whole course of treatment is generally divided into 3 to 5 sessions, every 2 to 4 weeks, and each session usually takes no more than 30 minutes<\/li>\n<li>Research shows that after laser treatment, more than 90% of the nails have clinical improvement, and the cure rate exceeds 70%<\/li>\n<li>If it can be combined with external application of antifungal drugs, the effect will be better<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Prevention of gray nails<\/h3>\n<p>The best way to prevent gray nails is to maintain personal hygiene, wash your hands frequently, and change your socks frequently. Shoes and socks should be as breathable as possible, choose cotton socks to keep feet dry (especially between the toes). After returning home, put the shoes in a ventilated place to dry, or let the sun shine directly on the shoes to sterilize them.
