Gout is often related to poor eating habits. Mr. Zhang counted his fingers: "Recently, I have had a lot of entertainment. I had a side fire with my friends for several nights in a row. Gout is a metabolic disease. Due to the high level of uric acid in the blood, urate crystals are deposited in the joints and other parts of the body. In acute inflammation, the joints will become red, hot, painful and swollen. If the level of uric acid in the blood continues to be too high, inflammation may recur frequently, which may lead to serious chronic complications such as joint deformation, uric acid stones, and nephritis over time.<\/p>\n
Gout is related to the purines in food. Animal offal, shellfish, beans, etc. contain high levels of purines. Generally speaking, purines are metabolized and decomposed into uric acid, which is excreted through urine; if due to genetic factors or kidney excretion function problems, the body produces too much uric acid or excretes too little, it will cause hyperuricemia and increase the chance of suffering from gout .<\/p>\n
According to statistics, there are more than 500,000 gout patients in Hong Kong, and the incidence rate is higher in men, and middle-aged or elderly people are also more likely to suffer from this disease.<\/p>\n
Even if you are only in your 30s or 40s, if you are used to eating recklessly, your body will naturally sound an alarm. Other high-risk factors include being overweight, drinking alcohol (such as beer), drinking high-sugar beverages, relatives with gout, high blood pressure, cardiovascular, thyroid, and kidney diseases.<\/p>\n
Mr. Zhang was frightened by gout and was eager to ask for advice on how to treat it. In addition to taking gout medicine or anti-inflammatory painkillers, he is advised to control his diet in the future: drink more water to help excrete uric acid, drink less alcohol, eat less animal offal, and do not eat too much red meat and shellfish.<\/p>\n
