Prostatic hyperplasia, also known as prostatic hypertrophy, is a benign hyperplasia, not cancer. The current medical community has not yet determined its cause, and it is generally believed to be related to aging.<\/p>\n
Symptoms may not appear in the early stages of benign prostatic hyperplasia. If not treated early, it may cause various urinary system symptoms, such as frequent urination, dysuria, and blood in the urine, etc. At the same time, it may cause various complications, including acute urinary retention, urethritis, Cystitis can cause damage to bladder function or kidney function in severe cases.<\/p>\n
To diagnose BPH, refer to the "International Prostate Symptom Scale" to assess the urinary symptoms and their severity caused by related diseases. Doctors will conduct clinical examinations, blood tests, rectal ultrasonography, prostate and bladder ultrasonography, etc. to understand the condition in detail. If unfortunately diagnosed with prostate cancer, patients will be advised to undergo imaging examinations to assess the extent of tumor spread.<\/p>\n
Mild cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia can generally be treated with drugs. For patients with relatively severe symptoms or complications, minimally invasive surgery - "transurethral resection of the prostate" or "transurethral incision of the prostate" is commonly used. If the prostate is too large or there are other complications, the doctor may perform "open prostatectomy" which requires general anesthesia.<\/p>\n
Although BPH is a benign disease that will not develop into malignant prostate cancer and will not increase the risk of cancer, the urinary symptoms caused by the two diseases are very similar. Both are more common in older men and can also coexist at the same time.<\/p>\n
People with a history of prostate cancer in the family (especially close relatives such as fathers and brothers) or those who are accustomed to a high-fat diet have a higher risk of developing prostate cancer.
