Adenomyosis (also known as adenomyoma) is a benign cyst and a type of endometriosis. The patient's symptoms are not necessarily obvious, or only slightly uncomfortable; often it can lead to severe menstrual pain, excessive menstrual flow, and even anemia. In addition, menstrual blood accumulates in the muscular layer of the uterus, causing the uterus to swell like a ball, and then compresses the pelvic floor muscles and bladder, causing pelvic pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because some symptoms are similar, most people tend to confuse adenomyoma with uterine fibroids. Doctors will make a diagnosis based on clinical examination, combined with transvaginal ultrasound, or MRI scan if necessary. In fact, although both belong to benign cysts of the uterus, the former is mainly caused by the backflow of menstrual blood and accumulates in the endometrium of the inner muscle to form a mass; while the latter is caused by the proliferation of smooth muscle cells in the uterine wall. On the contrary, the situation of adenomyosis is more complicated, so the disease may spread all over the muscle layer of the uterus. If surgical resection is used for treatment, it is easy to damage the surrounding muscle tissue, so the complete hysterectomy is the most radical method, but it is not suitable for women who are still planning to have children. In order to delay the deterioration of adenomyosis, doctors generally take conservative treatment as the primary consideration. If it is adenomyoma formed in one place, you can try to use surgery to remove the tumor and keep the uterus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, due to the wide range of lesions and unclear boundaries, it is difficult to completely remove the tumor by surgery, so supplementary drug treatment may be required after surgery to reduce the chance of recurrence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Patients with adenomyosis still have the chance to become pregnant after receiving treatment, but attention should be paid to the fact that the fetus is developing in the uterus and at the same time it induces the growth of adenomyoma, which is prone to the risk of miscarriage. Therefore, some doctors will inject progesterone (commonly known as "anti-abortion injection") for patients with signs of miscarriage to inhibit uterine contraction and allow the embryo to implant and grow smoothly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
