Especially for women going through menopause, their emotions can fluctuate greatly, and they need more understanding from their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the past six months, Tina has suffered from hot flashes and night sweats, resulting in poor sleep quality, daytime lethargy, irritability, and even arguments with her family over trivial matters. She consulted a doctor about how to improve her menopausal symptoms and learned that hormone therapy to supplement estrogen could alleviate her discomfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Women entering menopause (or perimenopause) experience significant fluctuations in estrogen levels, with some reaching as high as 10%, which may lead to depression. Studies have confirmed that transdermal or oral estrogen therapy is effective in treating perimenopausal mood and is even used as an adjunct to antidepressant medications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Estrogen therapy has a mood-regulating effect, which some studies suggest is related to estrogen&#039;s ability to regulate neurotransmitters (such as serotonin and dopamine). It also has neuroprotective properties, maintains or improves cognitive function, and may reduce the risk of future dementia. In addition to alleviating some common menopausal symptoms, this treatment can also reduce the risk of osteoporosis and colon cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tina had high hopes for this treatment, but her doctor warned her that long-term estrogen use was not a good idea. Estrogen therapy is more effective for women just entering menopause; however, for women who have been menopausal for many years, its effectiveness in treating depression is less pronounced or ineffective. This is because older women&#039;s brain nerves may have degenerated, or they may have lost sensitivity to estrogen. Forcing treatment could accelerate nerve degeneration or induce vascular embolism. In addition, long-term estrogen supplementation increases the risk of breast cancer, especially for patients with breast cysts, who should consult a doctor to determine if it is suitable. Some women may experience menstrual-like bleeding after treatment; long-term use of estrogen alone can also increase the risk of endometrial cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before starting treatment, the doctor must first confirm whether Tina has heart disease.
