For example, during the changing seasons, many elders think that itchy skin is just a minor problem, but improper care can actually turn it into a big trouble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the skin of older adults gradually loses oil secretion, it often exhibits four characteristics: dryness, itching, thinning, and slow repair. The weakened natural protective barrier of the skin makes it unable to defend against external stimuli and pathogens, leading to complications such as skin allergies and fungal infections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many diabetic patients are elderly and are more susceptible to fungal infections such as Candida. Patients with more severe diabetes often have diabetic foot problems, and wounds are generally difficult to heal. Without proper care, they may become infected with bacteria and become inflamed, and in severe cases, amputation may be necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the immune system of the elderly weakens, they are more susceptible to the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus, which can cause shingles (also known as herpes zoster). Patients develop a band-shaped rash and blisters on their skin, accompanied by sharp, stabbing pain. It is recommended that seniors seek medical attention as soon as possible within the critical &quot;golden 72 hours&quot; if they notice any symptoms, and take antiviral medication to reduce the risk of complications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An elderly person once asked me with concern: Are the brown spots on my limbs skin cancer? These spots are actually seborrheic keratosis, commonly known as &quot;age spots,&quot; and their formation is estimated to be related to skin aging and sun exposure. The spots have a rough appearance and a texture different from normal skin. Although they are mostly benign tumors, the elderly should still be vigilant, especially if they find spots that are asymmetrical in shape, have irregular edges, uneven color, or even bleed or ulcerate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, some elderly people who sit in wheelchairs or are bedridden for long periods of time may experience pressure sores (also known as bedsores) due to prolonged periods in the same position, which can cause poor blood circulation and potentially lead to necrosis of the skin and underlying tissues. Therefore, caregivers should regularly change the elderly person&#039;s position to help promote blood circulation in their limbs and reduce the formation of pressure sores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In summary, seniors should maintain good hygiene, moisturize, and protect themselves from the sun.
