In fact, besides &quot;skin warts,&quot; &quot;pearl-like warts&quot; (also known as molluscum contagiosum) are also a common benign skin growth. The following article helps you understand what pearly penile warts are, who are at high risk, and related treatment methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pearly penile warts: a common skin problem in children<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&quot;Pearl pearly penile warts&quot; may sound cute, but they are actually benign skin growths caused by a poxvirus infection. Patients develop multiple smooth, hemispherical bumps, 2 to 5 millimeters in size, with some having a central pit at the top. They vary in color from pearly white, light yellow, to flesh-colored and commonly appear on the chest, abdomen, arms, buttocks, skin folds, and face. Occasionally, they can also appear on the oral mucosa. If they appear on the eyelids, caution is advised as they may lead to complications such as keratoconjunctivitis. The skin around the affected area is itchy, and scratching can easily cause the virus to spread and secondary bacterial infections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The incubation period for pearly penile warts is generally about two weeks, but can be as long as six months, making it sometimes difficult to trace the source of infection. It most commonly affects the limbs, especially the elbows or knee creases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>People with weakened immune systems:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>People with severe illness, HIV\/AIDS, or those undergoing chemotherapy or taking immunosuppressive drugs may have more pearly penile warts, a wider area, and be more difficult to resolve on their own if they are infected with the poxvirus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eczema patients:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Due to damage to the skin&#039;s surface barrier and imbalance of the autoimmune system, eczema patients are more susceptible to infection by poxviruses; in addition, the constant scratching caused by itching can easily lead to the spread of pearly penile warts, which can number over a hundred in severe cases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sexually active individuals:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If pearly penile warts are concentrated on the genitals, lower abdomen, pubic hair, thighs, and buttocks, there is a high chance that they are transmitted through sexual contact, and young adults are more often affected.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Skin warts: A hidden threat when immunity is weakened<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The aforementioned high-risk individuals should also be wary of skin warts, which are mainly caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. They appear as rough, flesh-colored or brown granules or lumps and are commonly found on the face, neck, chest, and abdomen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Transmission routes include both direct and indirect contact. However, HPV has a longer incubation period, so early infection often presents with no symptoms, and visible warts may not form until weeks or even months later. If you have any doubts about your symptoms, it is recommended to consult a doctor for appropriate treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Treatment methods for skin warts and pearly penile warts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether it&#039;s skin warts or pearly penile warts, if left untreated, they can spread on your skin or infect others. Treatment methods will depend on the patient&#039;s specific condition, age, location, and number of warts. Doctors will choose one of the following options based on the condition:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Topical medications: \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Commonly prescribed medications include topical salicylic acid and retinoic acid to soften the keratin and allow the warts to gradually fall off.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cryotherapy: \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Using extremely low-temperature liquid nitrogen, the infected tissue is rapidly frozen until it necroses and sloughs off on its own.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Laser Treatment: \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Using carbon dioxide laser to vaporize wart tissue and burn the skin surface to remove infected tissue is a more precise method. The wound heals automatically after scabbing and generally does not leave scars, with a relatively low recurrence rate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Surgical resection: \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is used in certain specific situations, such as when the wart tissue is large or other treatments are ineffective. Alternatively, the wound may need to be sutured, and then electrocautery can be used to eliminate any remaining wart tissue along with the underlying blood vessel proliferation using high heat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tips for preventing pearly penile warts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To reduce the risk of infection, pay attention to the following daily habits to help lower your chances of getting sick:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Maintain good personal hygiene, wash your hands frequently, and avoid touching or scratching the affected area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid sharing towels and personal items with others.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid walking barefoot in public places such as public bathhouses and swimming pools.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A balanced diet and regular exercise can enhance the body&#039;s resistance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If parents notice small bumps on their child&#039;s skin that resemble pearly penile warts, they should remind their children not to scratch them to avoid injuring the skin and causing the warts to spread. They can try gently applying a cool, damp towel to the itchy area and moisturizing the skin to help relieve the itching.
